gopalasamudram

Gopalasamudram is a village  situated on the southern bank of the river Tambirabarani in Tirunelveli District, TamilNadu, India.
The river Tambirabarani finds mention in the Valmiki Ramayana along with many other rivers of India . The 41st Chapter of Kishkindha Kanda of Valmiki Ramayana mentions Tambirabarani. This Tambirabarani river is the life force of the village economy and society.
The origin of Tambirabarani river is on the western ghats and this river is one of the important sources for providing water, required for the agricultural activities and for other use , particularly   providing the  drinking water supply
Majority of the people in this village are engaged in agriculture. While a few of them possess the lands of their own, the rest work in those agricultural lands on wages. The rice is the main food grain grown in these lands. Besides the cultivation of rice , some are engaged in the cultivation of of plantains .
They are grown, atleast, two times in a year.
However, after the harvest, in the intervening period, before the next growing session commences, some other leguminous plants or some food grains like “ududh ka dal “ (ulundu) or some seeds of oil varieties etc are grown if the environmental conditions are favourable .
There is a small dispensary with a medical doctor who provides the normal health care and first aid facilities.
The maternity facilities with a doctor and midwife are also available.
There is a village Panchayat who administer in the best possible way for the general upkeep of environmental cleaning/protection and providing the basic necessities for the people,such as drinking water supply to their houses on pipes /public hand pumps for the ground water ,street lighting etc, besides the collection of taxes .This village provides education to all, through the government recogonised elementary schools and an High School,
